The ISAF Offshore Safety Course is designed for racers and cruising yachtsman alike. It arms you with the knowledge needed to plan for emergencies, so that you can deal with them effectively.
It is a well proven fact that, in the event of an emergency at sea, people who have received training are more likely to survive. Disasters at sea like the Sydney Hobart Race and the Fastnet Race are harsh reminders that serious incidents can happen to even the most experienced yachtsmen and that you need to know what to do to survive.
This course is divided into 2 modules as follows:

Module 2 - Offshore Safety Day The Offshore Safety Day includes preparing for heavy weather, use of storm sails, assisting other vessels, communication equipment and heavy weather sailing techniques.
This will be split in two sections: the first being theory, involving classroom discussions and a real life video. The second will be the practical – involving flare and fire extinguisher demonstration. If you lost someone over the side or had gear failure, would you know what to do?
If you already have a Sea Survival Certificate, you do not need to attend module 1 again, although a refresher is recommended every 5 years. The ISAF Certificate is valid for 5 years.
Participants in the Fastnet and other Category 2 races are recommended to complete a one day First Aid course in addition to the 2 Day ISAF Course.
