Prerequisites for Cruising Instructor: Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement, SRC and First Aid Qualifications.
At ONDECK we pride ourselves on quality tuition, and so we set the industry standard here. This course is delivered by the Sailing School Principal, Ian Jinks, who has delivered Instructor training for the Royal Yachting Association, on the Shorebased Instructor Courses for 3 years.
This course at times may also be delivered by a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Examiner if Ian Jinks is unavailable. The essence of this course is that you will be taught how to teach, and is not simply an extended Yachtmaster Exam. You will of course need to be up to speed in navigation techniques and small boat handling, under sail and power. During the Cruising Instructor Course your instructor will go through:
- The RYA Scheme and Course Syllabus
- How to plan your courses
- How to set up training exercises
- Debriefing and Feedback Skills
There is obviously a level of assessment during the course, and successful candidates will be awarded the RYA Cruising Instructor, which is endorsed onto your Yachtmaster Certificate. The benefits of training with ONDECK include:
- Top quality instruction
- Direct recruitment from students who pass our Cruising Instructor Course
- Ongoing development for the right candidate
